Sanlam by Glacier, the major sponsor to our biggest event, the Glacier Storms River Traverse, have envisioned this hamlet as a microcosm of what South Africa could be. With huge gratitude, they have donated R50 000 each year for the past three years to support community work. So too, have local businesses and individuals.The STORMS NPC has taken an extraordinary step and gained Public Benefit Organisation status, which is no small feat for a tiny village. This allows individuals and businesses to follow the great example set by Glacier by Sanlam. And through donations, everyone wins.The tourism economy gets a boost, jobs are created and our village grows.
A community pulling together
Home-grown produce serves to support community baking, soup kitchens and the community’s celebrated eatery, ‘Kasi Corner’, while our community go-getter, Joslin Bauer guides women, children and youths through a kaleidoscope of self-development initiatives. Our ‘Earthlings’ give great evidence to what is possible. Imagine our community homes matching the iconic standout colourful homes in the Bokaap, set among well-kept gardens.Imagine our guests enjoying a picnic hamper of sparkling wine, cheeses and other goodies,relaxing on a community-made rug surrounded by natural sun-kissed vegetation overlooking the beautiful Witteklip gorge. Our projects for waste and environmental management are having a positive impact. People who might have previously turned to minor crimes, are now finding rewarding jobs, while the Witteklip gorge is returning to its natural, beautiful state. This is progress through tangible action.
Donations are tax-efficient
Whether personal or business, big or small, donating to the Storms River Village initiatives is tax-deductible and helps us move closer to the Storms River Village becoming an example of what communities in South Africa could become. This is your chance to get your tax relief ahead of the 28 February 2026 deadline. Pay as an EFT, in cash or in kind, by way of tangible goods. If you’re a South African, we’ll provide you with a SARS 18A Certificate, which your financial advisers will use to secure your legitimate tax break.
